Mister Fixit was made redundant last Friday. It wasn't unexpected, but, in true form for our family, when it was announced that 40 jobs were being cut Fixit thought he'd go and I thought they'd keep him. I mean, why wouldn't you keep Mister Fixit? He's fantastic; Fantastic Mister Fixit. But he was right and I was wrong.
It is slightly hard to say to people
oh by the way Fixit's been made redundant so I emailed our family, and I guess people around us will find out when they see Fixit hanging round the neighbourhood drinking coffee. I don't want to catastrophise it, because it may turn out to be a good thing. That workplace has been a poisoned chalice from the start, owing primarily to the management. So it is possible that he'll find another job before too long and we won't have to chip into the redundancy payout, in which case we'll be better off. We don't
know yet if it's a bad thing, so there's no point getting worked up about it. Having said that, I noticed that we both slumped a little this weekend, that we were both grumpier and touchier than normal, but I daresay that will wear off soon.
Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, start all over again, as Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers sang.
Oh I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sure Mr Fixit was totally fantastic (and that down the track they will regret their decision)but unfortunately fantastic isn't always enough in the face of the cruel bean counters. Here's hoping that something fabulous comes his way soon.
ReplyDeleteBugger. Not a nice feeling that, even if it might turn out to be a good thing. Not nice to have the uncertainty, either.
ReplyDeleteCrossing all my digits that it falls into the 'blessing' category.
Ah I'm sorry that this happened. No matter what, it tends to be a blow to the self esteem for a while.
ReplyDeleteI too hope that this turns out to be a change that was needed for something wonderful to happen.
I can't say it better than Aunty Evil. I am sorry it happened too. May it turn out to be a blessing.
ReplyDeleteI know you all will hold your heads up high, and not be afraid of the dark.
ReplyDeleteoh, dammit. That's rotten news, but hopefully it will mean he is free to jump at an REALLY good offer soon, where his skills are appreciated.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed that Fanastic Mr. Fixit finds something even better in the near future. Meanwhile it's a bummer, but trying to keep a positive outlook is probably the best idea.... Wishing you both lots of luck.
ReplyDeleteEndings mean beginnings! All the best to your lovely family, especially Mr. F! Xx
ReplyDeleteEurgh! So sorry this happened and, like the others, I hope that there is a better job just around the corner and the redundancy payout gets to stay in the bank.
ReplyDeleteAw man, that is never fun to go through even when it might lead to better things in the long run. As I'm sure it will!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear. Hope something wonderful comes along for him very, very soon. Does he get some sort of assistance as part of the package to help him find another job eg resume preparation?
ReplyDeleteAllegedly they offered assistance Kay but possibly not in a way that Fixit felt he could follow through. Might have involved ringing people and making appointments?
DeleteOh, so sorry, thought like the others I hope that Mr F gets a much better job soon and the whole thing seems like a blessing. Still, pretty tedious till that point. (Mr L got made redundant at 51 but got a much nicer job afterwards - didn't pay as well but then didn't wear him into the ground either, so it turned out to be a good thing.)
ReplyDeleteBugger.
ReplyDeleteLyndon was made redundant in a job back about 11 years ago - was (honestly) the best thing that could've happened to us as it led him on a different road to bigger and better things.
Hope Mr Fixit will do that too.
enjoy the time you have with him between jobs...it didn't sound like he was happy working there.
ReplyDeletel hope a better opportunity comes his way soon..
and commiserations for your vomiting family..l'm afraid l'd be totally useless in that dept.
