School.

You know my baby?

babycherub

This one?

bwbabycherub

My bay-bee, my bubbsy boy?

cherub1 and buzzcar

He looks a bit more familiar with hair I suppose.

Oh, wait, that's not much hair. Try this one.

cherub3buzzcar

Yeah. Little long-haired baby boy. You know who I mean.

The one that suddenly grew longer and thinner overnight.

My Cherub, that's the one.

Well.

He started school today.

I wouldn't believe it either, except the house is so quiet now.

Do you want a walk-through?

Okay. Well. There were a few tears in the car.

[Me, not him.]

When we got to the playground, he put his schoolbag down (proudly) in the same place Climber does and went off happily to play on the equipment. Then the bell went and we headed over towards his classroom. That was when things got a bit wobbly.

[Still me, not him.]

We all went into the classroom together, a first day treat. He put his schoolbag in his locker (another proud moment) and then sat down in front of the big pirate ship that had caught his eye. His friends soon joined him, and they started playing very happily. Meanwhile my friend Lucy (mother-of-Cherub's-Best-Friend) and I surreptitiously shared tissues and tried to keep it together. Look, nearly managed it!

We took a few family shots, and see, everybody is happy. That's not so hard now, is it?

Oh wait. W-a-i-t a minute.

Pardon? How's the Cherub?

He was completely fine. Only one baby in this household today.

  2. Aw! Well, I'm glad the Cherub had a good day, anyway! I expect you were hovering by the phone, like I do on the first day of school EVERY year -- still! And my youngest is 11!

  5. You know we had to change schools this year, right? On account of the commute would've been a killer...yeah, well, did it all again. My recommendation? Stay off the gin tonight.

  7. Oh, goodness. Now you have me tearing up too!

We want them to grow up and be independent and learn to take care of themselves. Still, why does it have to happen so quickly?

  10. I'm crying too. Glad it was ok, even if it took a visit to the cafe to get to that point. Bella's day was good, big sister has her feathers ruffled a bit as school was hers, now this upstart knows it all after two days.
Will you cry again tomorrow? Come to boot camp to take your mind off it,
    J

  24. You are an absolute sweetheart. I'm enjoying my SCRABBLE with you on Facebook, even if it's gonna take 5 years to finish one game as I can only take a turn if my boss isn't here or if Mr Mangroves isn't killing Nazis on the computer. My Ratbag starts Little Kinder tomorrow. I'm excited/scared/shitting myself. I loved the photoalbum of Cherub.. he is divine :))) xox Rambling Finished.

  29. Ahh, I sympathise!

I remember howling my eyes out when my youngest started year 1. Howled. HOWLED I did.

Over champagne at a friend's house (we all had youngests starting that day).

Still spilling a tear or two thinking about it now.

    Sniff. I understand.

  30. Oh sweetie, you poor thing... I think it's the baby of the family factor - I couldn't even think of going home to an empty house after saying goodbye to Sophie on her first day, I stayed out til it was time to go and pick her up again! Can I tell you two things - one, I am keeping an eye out for Cherub when I'm on yard duty most days and two, he does miss you too - he told me. You will both be fine. He is a sweetheart with a big heart. Love all the pics. xxxxx

  31. That last photo did me in.

Good luck to Cherub and good luck to mum. It's a hard road we walk, I had no idea what was ahead when I saw those 2 pink lines on the pregnancy test.

  32. Oh dear...I've read backwards (latest post first) and now I know where that scrunched up tear-ridden face comes from!!

I'm feeling your pain. Another big hug to you...

  33. You held it together for him, that's the important thing.
Give me a few more months and I'll be right there with you.

You have such a gorgeous family. Such sweet little guys.
