The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune

Well, no actual arrows, but here are the slings in our life. Cherub is back at school although yesterday he only lasted half a day. Fair enough. At first he thought the sling was a nuisance and asked if he had to wear it. The doctor said it was a good idea, if only to let other people know to be gentle near him. By the end of that first day Cherub was really feeling the weight of his splinted arm, and both mornings since I've been awoken by Cherub standing next to my bed asking me to help him get the sling on. The poor kid is starting to realise the ramifications of being maimed. No swimming, soccer, tennis, trampoline, running or climbing. No two-handed games on the computer either. Even lego is difficult. I suggested he could read books but apparently that was boring too.

As for the kitty, he still really, really wants cuddles. He limps around after me sometimes, looking up at me pathetically. But I can't always be sitting in a chair, there is dinner to cook and stuff to do. So yesterday I tied the ends of a pashmina together and he snuggled in.

He was pretty happy with the arrangement.

  2. OMG, your kitty sling is brilliant! Does he absolutely love it? He certainly looks like he does in that photo!

And poor broken-winged Cherub. Speedy healing to him! My girl child spent her 3rd birthday in a figure-8 sling as a result of breaking her collarbone (with her brother's help)(it's a long and painful story) several weeks beforehand. I still want to cry when I see the pictures. Good thing our kids are much more resilient than their mums, eh?

  3. That kitty sling is pure genius! You should patent that...I could see quite a market for it around here for small white fluffy dogs!

    Hope Cherub's arm heals quickly.

  4. My eldest's class has one of those hairless cats as a pet. The sphinx spends the entire day nestled in the teacher's sling or sitting on a kid lap. Purrrrrrrrrrr....

    Poor Cherub. Does look bor-ing.

  6. Basil looks so content! Does he stay in there and not wriggle around?

Poor Cherub. It's a rite of passage, breaking something.

  8. Oh thank the lord my cat did not see that sling - he would be thrilled to find a way to be that close at all times....

  9. I am very taken by that cat sling - looks like Basil is too.
I sympathise with Cherub. I broke my arm at the beginning of the Christmas school holidays when I was nine...no swimming for six weeks and I lived Top End of the NT!

  11. Super cute Basil holder! Maybe if Cherub's sling was purple and had a cat in it, he'd like it more... :)

Poor Basil. Poor Cherub. Misery. But they manage to wear it well.

  15. Oh dear. Lots of comforting and mothering required at your place right now. I hope everyone heals as quickly as possible.

  16. poor little boy. My eldest broke both bones in his arms last August and had to have titanium rods inserted (and then taken out... blah)... HOrrible for a parent and horribly boring for a child.

    I feel for you both.

  17. I love the photos and Basil looks delighted with the arrangement but you must have strong neck muscles! All that dancing, I suppose.

  18. Poor CHerub, I hope he settles to his period of restriction soon.

My 60 year old was similarly winged in January (hit by a car) and he whined non-stop for 6 weeks, and required a LOT of pain relief and there were many tantrums as well. Something about it being summer, and the beach, and him not being able to drive in his cast. Sigh.

I love Basil-kitty in a sling, great solution.
