This is the first time I've ever choreographed a kiss into a tap routine!
This lovely couple started coming to my tap classes last year and liked it so much fun they decided to do a bit of hoofing for their bridal dance at their wedding next week. So although I'm officially on a tapping holiday, I've been working with them on their routine - to Jimmy Jazz by The Clash- and they look fabulous. You wouldn't even pick them as beginners to be honest, except occasionally when they concentrate so hard they forget to smile. But every time they catch each other's eye, the smiles reappear. They are a terrifically nice couple and you can tell it's going to be a gorgeous wedding. I was only going to charge them for the hall-hire and make my time/choreography their wedding present but they forced money into my hand at the first session and wine & some Clash cds for the second. They're under strict instructions to show me the wedding video when they get back from their honeymoon.

Fascinating! What would you never choreograph to tap dancing?
ReplyDeleteHow sweet! It must make you feel so good, knowing that something you taught them is something that will start out their lives...
ReplyDeleteAw, that is so awesome. I would never have thought of Jimmy Jazz as a tap-friendly song (not being a dancer and all) but it's perfect, really.
ReplyDeleteOh, and for the record, I am perfectly willing to be paid in wine and Clash CDs if anyone wants to, you know, hire me for anything. And pay me like that.
How fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThat is just perfection.
ReplyDeleteOn so many levels.
They are so cute !!
ReplyDeleteI've only ever danced with my husband twice, and neither time was at my wedding..
and once was actually only because some OTHER guy started dancing with me.
*sigh*
How fun! I'd love to see it!
ReplyDeleteThat is totally awesomely cool! What a great wedding it will be!
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that - I love that they are doing something a bit different for their wedding. And they look great in that shot :)
ReplyDeleteHeidi
Sensational! Bet you can't wait to see how it goes!
ReplyDeleteStomper, you are an artist.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool.
ReplyDeleteUnlike this fecking heatwavy weather.
Awww, isn't that sweet? Mind you, I was so nervous at my wedding that I don't think I'd have gone if I'd had to tap dance as well. But it's good that not everyone's such a coward as me!
ReplyDeleteDoing a tap dance for your wedding is a fantastic idea! Makes me want to get married again ;)
ReplyDeleteI want my funeral choreographed. I don't know if that would violate any sensibility or sense of propriety or good taste on your part, but it would appeal to my rather eccentric side.
ReplyDeleteIf you would do that for me, my estate would pay your airfare and hotel AND! AND! you'd get one of those kickass goody bags I make.
Now I have to talk to Suse and see if she'll knit some suitably somber little somethings to include therein.
Think of the fun you two will have flying to Florida in the year 2060!

P.S. That kiss thing is damnably brilliant.
ReplyDeleteLordy, I'd love to be choreographing at that age, I must say. But don't die Joke, we'd miss you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab story for the New Year. And their new marriage.
ReplyDeletepat yourself of the back!!
That is brilliant! What a thrill for you, to know you have been such an important part of making their wedding so special. I bet they amaze their guests!
ReplyDeleteI'm not in a hurry to die. But seeing as how every day people are dying -- people who have NEVER died before, no less! -- I have to be prepared.
ReplyDeleteTowards that end, I have left behind in the assorted instructions all kinds of things which has caused my beloved to roll her eyes like a slot machine.
Such as the menu for the reception following the burial.
And the goody bags.
And the program(me).
You get the idea. (But do NOT choreograph a kiss under those circumstances.)

P.S. Besides, by the time you're 90, that will be like being 70 today.
So. Possible music?
ReplyDeleteSpirit in the Sky (Norman Greenbaum)
That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore (The Smiths)
Cheek to Cheek (Fred Astaire ) : ...Heaven, I'm in Heaven... etc
Liberty Bell March (RPO)
Popcorn (Hot Butter)
Never Can Say Goodbye (Gloria Gaynor)
That's beautiful...what a nice sentiment....people still dancing together on their wedding day.
