There's so much cleaning up with painting

rollercherub in smock_6984

Even though I re-painted them in January, my old tap boards have had it. Three plus years of constant kicking and stomping have taken their toll. They're only MDF after all. So I've had to brave Bunnings Hardware with my Dad and his station-wagon to buy some new ones. I'm trying paving paint this time, on the advice of a tap-student who has a painter husband. Pre-mixed in Forest Green. Surprisingly they didn't offer it out of the can in purple, and I couldn't actually be bothered lining up to get it tinted. I'm pretty sure I can't be bothered to adorn them with pretty stars this time either. I'm hoping the foresty-ness of the green will be excitement enough, a touch of the outdoors perhaps?

I think of myself as a happy person, one who enjoys her life. But if my schedule gets loaded up with excess stuff like painting on a muggy hot Sunday (which was also annoyingly windy enough to keep blowing the boards around) AND having to properly clean up the house - especially the junk spare room - for a week-long visit from my sister and her kids, then it turns out I'm a grumpy cow. In other words, I'm happy as long as I don't have to do too much. I should have been a princess.

  1. I sympathise. Am doing same thing for least favourite step-daughter. You will probably have a better time, though, though once I get to see you all I will feel better too.

  2. Wow. So from looking at your stenciling entry, you had to paint up 28 of those suckers? That alone would leave me snarly.

Cherub's looking very photogenic, as usual. If you ever get low on cash, you could probably rent your kids out as models.

  3. Me too. Why aren't we princesses?

I think green boards are a small price to pay for avoiding waiting hours in Bunnings, and green looks great with purple.

  4. Never heard of tap boards before.
You learn something new every day...

  5. The tapping princess! Once you start banging on those boards you'll feel better. I'm grumpy too when I have too much on - I like a bit of down time these days!

  6. I am convinced that something went wrong in the hospital I was born and that I was given to the skanky family instead of the posh one.

Of course, I was also born in a skanky hospital, so it is highly likely the posh people weren't really there. But I can't think of that right now.

But I was under the impression that you WERE a princess.

  8. I love that line, 'should have been a princess' --So true!!!!

The green is nice. I wonder how spray paint would work. It does wonders as graffiti -- seems to stick for ages.

  9. I'm with you! It's a bastard when we're expected to do too much. I hope you get some grateful appreciation. (I usually expect too much, hopes get raised, etc). :P

  12. Me too. The princess life would suit me well.

Or not. Don't princesses, like, have to do stuff? I dream of utter idleness.

Except when there's something I'd like to do.

  13. Ditto the Princess thing.
It seems there's a few of us :p

ANd not that i'm a tapper, but the textured paint does sound like a good idea - have you ever fallen on your arse mid-show ?

    Just wondering ..

  14. So your Inner Princess is getting twitchy again? Mine too! We need to start an Inner Princess club, so that people, my father-in-law for instance, will know that we're no commoners, and behave towards us accordingly!

  16. Me, me! I want to be a princess too.
I'd like to look like Grace, have Anne's riding ability, Mary's clothes and Caroline's home town, Diana's legs.
You're ace painting the tap boards. My tap students would be tapping on carpet or dirt or something.

  17. I think to date my only spectacular fall-on-my-arse moment was when I was teaching a class how to do a tricky slide and after telling them to take care I promptly went down. Hard. I was six months pregnant at the time. Took a bit of convincing to make them attempt the tricky slide after that!

  18. Forest green goes very well with purple tap shoes! That kid of yours is absolutely darling. Definitely worthy of royal lineage. Princess is all in the attitude.

Can I just say that I miss Evil Manor so much? So, so much! I think I love you Aunty E.

  20. Stuff princess, I wanna be QUEEN OF THE UNIVERSE. Although that would possibly involve some work. Assassinations and such, you know.

  21. If I lived closer, I'd paint for you on a hot muggy Sunday. I can't think of anything more enjoyable, actually :-)

Can't wait to see the finished product, because she looks like she's handling the job just fine!

  23. Yes, I'm a saint when things are easy, too. Ho hum.

  24. Oh, no. Being a princess carries too much responsibility and duty. All that nobless oblige. Opening hospitals, cutting ribbons, sitting through interminable speeches.

I want to be heiress to an old family fortune...preferably a fortune made in hotels. :)

  25. Oh Cherub is such a cherub!
Looks like he's taking his job very seriously.
Did you have him rub your feet afterwards? Seeing as you are a tap dancing princess?
