Hello, it's the School Holidays!
Where's my middle-class checklist? I think I have attended to my childrens' every need.
* The Cherub attended a week-long morning swimming clinic, and the Climber a 2-day basketball one. Gross-motor development and general fitness : Check.
* Both kids attended a 3-hour Lego workshop. Fine motor-skills development and Learning : Check.
* Braved the hordes at Scienceworks where 4,000 people a day are visiting the Star Wars Exhibition. Culture and Brain Skills and Outdoor Play : Check.
(I have far more photos of the Cherub from this expedition because he clung to my hand and dragged me round. Every so often we'd come across the Climber, doing his own thing like mad with all the interactive stuff. He consented to come over to the Jedi/Sith dudes so I could borrow a light-sabre and take his photo. Meanwhile, the Cherub
posed in front of every major character he could find. )
*Plenty of rest and relaxation (aka slouching round the house.) Check, check, double-check.
I'd like to spend my holidays with you. You make certain that you have lots of fun together!
ReplyDeleteWait just a minute. I don't see rest and relaxation in the middle-class checklist - that is only for the upper class.
ReplyDeleteKeep going with all that fun stuff and the kids will never want to go back to school.
So, how long did you have to wait in line for Star Wars? Luckily they provide entertainment.
We accidentally got there an hour before opening time so we were pretty much at the head of the queue. And my ipod has games on it to amuse the small-folk.
ReplyDeleteThe Star Wars thing looks fantastic. We don't have anything so engaging in poor old Adelaide and I forgot to organise the holiday swimming lessons. You are a middle-class parenting goddess and I am a failure. Fortunately, it is only week one of the hols here so I still have time to redeem myself!
ReplyDeleteYou are a good mother! I love those intent gazes. How about you come up here and take me around on some holiday activities?
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely one of those cool mums :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd I, in the mountains way, am content to let the kids lounge all day in their pyjamas.
ReplyDeleteMaybe yum cha in the city next week if we can stir ourselves!
I bet my kids wish they could swap their mother for you. So I won't be telling them about this post.
Isn't it weird that my two oldest boys were Star Wars fanatics as children, and now one's five year old son and both his "Lily boy" cousins are likewise besotted? We had every action figure in the book, but they went the way of all discarded toys----wouldn't those little guys like to have those originals! Your two look entranced!
ReplyDeleteJ.T. would sell me to come hang out with you on school holidays. He'd be all over that Star Wars thing. Rob might sell me for that, as well, come to think of it.
ReplyDeleteYou are a grade A mother. Sigh. You're setting the bar quite high, you know.
Zip is standing here saying, "Who's that?! He's at a light saber show?"
ReplyDeleteEnvy?
Oh yes!
Impressive list. I'll be getting off my keister now...
ReplyDeleteWe braved the exhibition last Friday, thanking all the small gods that I had thought to check for online tickets (avoids the ginormous queue). Much Star Wars love in this family and we enjoyed ourselves hugely.
ReplyDeleteOh my boys would love that exhibition. Especially youngest child who turns *everything* into a light sabre.
ReplyDeletePity their mother doesn't do crowds.
We did the Scienceworks day as well. Both boys loved every minute but were a tiny bit dissapointed when they asked a Storm Trooper for a photo and he refused and walked off!!! Fantastic day out though.
