Out with the Old

(wait, that could be me)

This is my official Happy New Year post.

Not long after we found out about the stupid job we were invited to a party at Wallington Adventure Park, an aquatic fun park on the way to Queenscliff. Remember when I went to the Royal Melbourne Show and was all jealous because I stupidly didn't have a go on the giant slide?

Well I was determined not to be that dumb again, so despite the fact that the morning was coldish..

Wallington Water Park 35
(brrrr)

too cold for me to do this...

Wallington Water Park 52

...although the boys loved it...

047

...I made sure that I grabbed a mat, climbed up the enormous staircase with Climber for moral support, knelt at the starting line with my heart thumping and wait how do you hold this mat thing? how do I .. oh gawd, the lights are green, go go goooooooo!
(I'm in the lane second from the right, and Climber is far right)

OHMYGODSOMUCHFUNLETSDOITAGAIN!

So that's my resolution for the New Year. Don't hold back from trying something you like the look of because you might be too old or too poor or too shy or whatever. Embrace the healing goodness of being fully immersed in H2O. Don't hold onto your negative stuff. Be brave. Have fun.

Happy New Year Everyone! Thanks for coming to my blog! And seeing it's the end of the year, won't you please leave me a message if you read this! Go on. Be Brave.

love Carolinex

  11. Have you ever seen/read the Devine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood? There's a scene where the main character is a kid and her family goes to a fair. There's an elephant/plane ride (depending on if it's the book or the movie) and she doesn't go because she's too scared. And then she's upset because she missed out. Her mum drives her back in a mad dash and gets her her ride - it's a good description of both characters, and also a scene I overly identified with!

I spend far too much time on the sidelines going 'oh, but I don't know how, it seems scary, people will laugh at me...' you know the rest. But there's no one to talk me into it, so I have to do it myself! It's one of the things I admire about my sister - she just goes for it. And she might need to be pulled out of a mess every now and then, but who doesn't! Not doing scary things is no gaurantee that scary things won't happen.

So this is a long way of saying - good idea! Go for it! And maybe I can, too...

  26. Happy New Year!

Good advice, but I am still trying to convince myself that my thunder thighs won't repulse the people at the beach.

I may well just end up saying stuff it and do it anyway!

  27. Happy New Year!

What a great resolution - I don't really have one yet - still in thinking/relaxing mode.

Anyway, hope it's a really good year/decade all round!

  28. Great advice. Something I tell myself but don't follow very well (eg connecting with bloggers in real life, something I'd love but am too wussy to implement!).

    Huppy New Year!

  29. The kid went on his first waterslide a couple of days ago, he looked terrified but agreed it was fun. Mostly I think he was proud of himself for having done it, and isn't that so often the way? You never know unless you give it a bash, so happy new year Stomper family!

  39. I am just listening to Freddie Mercury singing Time, so it seems so appropriate for your post!
I agree go for everthing you can grab.
Just after I was diagnosed with quite bad osteoporosis, I went with my daughter, son & grandaughter, & went on a shaking jolting 'space ride' which warned people with my condition, among others, not to take part. I never regretted it, & decided I would not live my life in fear of what 'might be'.
Hugs & love to you all for 2010!

  40. Hope you have a great 2010. I think it is going to be a keeper for sure. It is amazing what goodies you can invite in when you live without fear.

  42. so many comments! stomper, you won't believe this, but you made me cry. a while back I did very similar things with J (who is now a 15 yo monosyllabic teenager who never ever gets out of bed and who I do not understand any more at all). I was terrified most of the day. speedy water slides, and even one that was mostly in the dark for extra horror. eek. I guess the 15 yo will one day be 25 and we will have a laugh together about that day. sigh. thanks for the memory.

  43. OMYGODTHATWASSOMUCHLETSDOITAGAIN

I LIKE that line! Thats what I felt when I flew on a trapeze! I ended up doing it 4 times even managing a backsomersault dismount. It is one of the physical highlights of my life and I have NEVER regretted it. It was terrifying and thrilling.

Good for you Caroline (somehow, I never knew that was your name).

Have a very happy New Year to you and all your lovely family. I do so enjoy reading of your adventures, big and small. (ooh, wv is pation = passion - Whee!)

    much love

  44. Happy New Year to you! Being brave is a great resolution. Mine was more along the lines of "be frugal". Not so much fun, that one. Although now that I think about it, this last weekend I was frugal by making a softie for a gift instead of buying something, and that was fun. Perhaps being frugal will lend itself to entertaining work-around solutions. This could be a fun resolution after all. :)

Thanks for your blog. I don't comment often (ever?), but I enjoy reading! Best of luck in the new year. 2010 is going to be a great one.

  45. I am not really a roller coaster person, but in a similar spirit to you, this year I have gone on several very challenging (to me) rides and am very glad I have.

(Not quite the extreme ones my teenagers go on, but nearly).
