Camp
This is how the Climber looked when he returned from camp. His skin appeared almost see-through, he was so tired. He said he had a good time, but further questioning revealed a bit of stress about the cabin-sharing side of things. Six 8-9 year-olds without direct supervision, it would take a miracle if things didn't get hyped-up and crazy, but Climber, aka Master Sensitive, found it extra hard. He is the sort of kid who actually needs a fair bit of time on his own. Having said that, shipping them off to camp is partly about them learning to stand on their own 2 feet, and I think he did all right. He just came home looking shattered. But on the up side, he adored all the daytime activities, so I think we're calling it a success.

I hated camp, I'd put on such a turn at the very suggestion I go to one, the weeping and the howling, that, in the end my mum usually didn't make me go. That said, I'd do the same thing over a swimming carnival.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Mr Brown this explains a lot :|
Poor wee man looks exhausted. My boy doesn;t face camp for another two years but I am dreading it already.
ReplyDeleteOh look at that little face!
ReplyDeleteHe does look exhausted, first thought when I saw the photo and before I read your words was that he had been crying!
I only went to camp once, we stayed in cabins, which was good, and they kept talking about "going on bivouac (sp?). I didn't know what the hell they were talking about, but apparently the weather didn't permit. It wasn't until I got home when I found out what it was that I was VERY happy we didn't have to do it, TENTS!!??
No thanks.
Dead right. Camp can get feral in the huts ! The noise.....
ReplyDeletepoor wee thing! I sympathise, I hated the anarchism of school camp (and wet lunchtimes inside). Glad to hear there was a good bit though!
ReplyDeleteHe looks just SO tired, but a good night's sleep and being back in the bosom of the family will set him to rights in a twinkling. He is getting so grown up. Camp is very stressful - for the parent!
ReplyDeleteHe does look completely knackered. Poor baby. Despite that he sounds like he probably had a great time! Usually the dirtier and smellier they are the better it has gone!
ReplyDeleteWe got our boy back on Friday night and he looked almost as tired as yours.
ReplyDeleteHe slept until 1.30pm on Saturday!
He looks exhausted. I bet the stories come out over a few days as he remembers the highlights.
ReplyDeleteMy kids both loved camping with school. Coming home exhausted with a bag full of smelly clothes constituted a very success camp for them.
Good Lord, look at the shadows under his eyes, he is KNACKERED!!!!
ReplyDeleteI can see he is almost weeping with exhaustion, I predict an early night for that little sweetie
I'm glad he's home, safe and sound.
ReplyDeleteYou captured a very haunting expression on his face.
Awww. I have good memories of camp at about Climber's age... but called my parents every day, begging them to come get me. After I got home, I was excited to share all the fun things that we'd done at camp.
ReplyDeleteSo, so tired, and not hard to understand why.
ReplyDeleteI always like camp - provided no tents were involved - but I'm pretty sure I didn't go on my first one until I was at least 11. 8-9 seems pretty young.
On my first school camp (around Climber's age) I was lucky as my dad was 'Head Master' at my school so I had my dad there!
ReplyDeleteClimber looks exhausted. I bet he was glad to come home and sleep.
Poor little guy! He certainly doesn't look the "happy camper" he did in the departure photo! Hope he'll have a few good memories when the dust settles and he's rested up again!
ReplyDeleteOur boys would get on so well, I'm sure of it.
ReplyDeleteI have a Mr Sensitive too and it can be heartbreaking.
I'm sure he would have had fun at camp though. You can't look that tired and not have had fun.
I bet he slept well that night. I bet you did too knowing he was home under your roof.
