It is Cherub's sixth birthday today. I can't believe it because six sounds quite grown-up.
And in a lot of ways he is pretty grown up. He can dress himself, buckle himself into the car, read and write and do sums. His cleverness astonishes us daily.
But then, he's still my baby in many ways. For example, I took the boys to see the movie Up today and he was sufficiently scared by it to crawl into my lap and stay there for most of the movie. And then as we walked back to the car he tucked his little hand in mine, and I thought, as I always do when I hold his small sweet hand, how holding hands with my children makes me happy to the very core of my being, and how I am really going to miss it when, like his older brother, he starts to grow away from me.
But six, hey? What a great thing. Our little comedian, our cheeky, chirpy, chatty, charming Cherub, our smoochy, cuddly, affectionate boy with the crazy sense of fun. Happy birthday to you.
oooh, Happy Birthday dear Cherub - what wonderful photos of your happy face - can one take a bad photo of this child ?!?!?
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, clever, and a well-manned-man-about-town.
x to you both/all :)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY !
Happy Birthday to your sweet little Cherub!
ReplyDeleteHe really is gorgeous... I love the pics.
Don't you just wish they'd stop growing so fast?
xoxo
6 - oh my goodness, I fear this is coming so quickly but they do grow to astonish you daily. I asked Caleb the other day to please stop going and he told me that he couldn't because he had to grow into a daddy just like his daddy. I had big girly tears
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous photos of your 6 year old Cherub!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Cherub! Hope you had a great day!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is the happiest birthday face I've seen in a long while. Wouldn't it be wonderful, to be that excited about a birthday again?
ReplyDeleteThat first photograph is divine!
ReplyDeleteI hope he holds your hand forever and ever.
Happy Birthday to your gorgeous boy.
ReplyDeleteI feel your terror re: when they stop holding your hand, giving you random hugs. Thankfully, my (just turned) 10 yr old and (almost) 8 yr old are still "kids".
I think the close connection you have with your boys will ensure sneaky hugs when friends are not around to deem it uncool.
Happy Birthday Cherub! Six is indeed quite big!
ReplyDeleteI really love holding hands too.
ps I think your kitchen looks really cool. As do your new camera photos.
Aw, happy happy birthday to the Cherub! Isn't he just lovely?
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Cherub.
ReplyDeleteHolding that sweet little hand is the most precious thing in the world. Children growing up is both the most wonderful and the most devastating thing about being a parent.
What a sweetheart! That first photo is priceless - you could sell it as a picture of happiness - its definitely a print one.
ReplyDeleteHolding little hands is really great. I borrow a little hand every chance I get, now that my children are adults. But my hubby will hold my hand sometimes, if I get scared.....
I had a sniffle over the hand-holding. I too love the way that small little warm hand fits so neatly inside of my larger one. Sniffle.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday dear Cherub!
Happy birthday and lots of love from Grandma, who is thinking of you all, especially Cherub, and of his uncle whose birthday is tomorrow, from where I am. And we have a full moon over Bergamo tonight.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Cherub! Such a sweet post.

Happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteTracey stole my comment!
ReplyDeleteAbout the first photo.
And the hand holding.
Oh well, I'm in good company.
Happy birthday you gorgeous boy!
Happy Birthday to your gorgeous Cherub. Hope that he has a wonderful birthday. :) x
ReplyDeleteHe's such a beautiful boy - hope six is a good year for him...
ReplyDeleteLooks like it was indeed a happy birthday.
ReplyDeleteStock up on those smooches, hugs and snuggles while you can. Get enough for both yourself and to fill up his tanks for a good long time. My husband claims he started hugging his folks again about the time he graduate from college, which makes for a long dry spot.
I long for the day when all my little ones can buckle themselves into the car! Happy birthday dear Cherub!!
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous is he, he always looks so angelic! I so know what you mean about them moving away as they get older, makes the special moments that much more tender. HB to your little man.
ReplyDelete"....When I was five
ReplyDeleteI was just alive
But now I am six
I'm as clever as clever;
so I think I'll be six now
for ever and ever."
Happy Birthday to The Cherub!
He looks like such a sweet boy - and I bet he is. Enjoy your lovely 6-year-old Cherub! (and by the way, my son just turned 7, and he still holds my hand, so you may have a year or two up your sleeve yet!)
ReplyDeleteSlightly belated Happy Birthday to Cherub! Six is getting pretty big.
ReplyDeleteLap-sitting and hand-holding aside, did you enjoy UP. We all got a bit teary...
What a gorgeous little, ahem, big six year old! Happy Birthday cherub.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated Birthday for your little boy. Didn't realise he was so close in age to the Flipster (two weeks or less). And yes, I love that hand-holding but always wonder now how much longer I'll get to do it.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday wonderful happy boy!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your gorgeous boy.
ReplyDeleteWhat you say about holding their little hands is just so true.
My big boy doesn't like public kisses and cuddles any more, but the younger one is still up for it. Long may it continue.
Gorgeous post, gorgeous boy.
