In which I rant and not many people know what I'm on about.

So if one described the style of tap taught at ones school as unique, would you think you were getting something really special and sign up?

Or would you wonder why one had chosen that particular epithet? I'm sure Clarissa Dickson-Wright has a unique style of tap-dancing but it does not necessarily mean I want to pay to watch it or pay her to teach it to me... and why would one choose that description? Unique. You'd almost think that one was worried that people might think one had 'borrowed' ones stylings from other sources and wanted to reassure us that it was definitely not the case.

We're back, by the way. Photos soon. Just had to get that off my chest.

There is unique as in - awesome !!!and fresh and individual and good or unique as in "she tap dances nude while intoning tibetan chants and flinging used teabags at the audience" .

  5. Stomper! Stop flinging used tea bags at your audience!

I'm guessing rival tap dance school is calling your style "unique" (heavy finger quotes?

Can you pour kool-aid on their floors?

  6. I can see why that would bug you. I'm trying it out in my head over and over and it really doesn't make any sense. Why would you call it unique? At some point, aren't most creative, artistic endeavors unique? Weird.

  9. Yeah, "unique" isn't necessarily a selling point with me. It sounds like the kind of thing one says when one can't think of something positive to say. "Oh! My goodness; that urn you gave me is so unique!

  10. If Clarissa wears fishnets with her tap shoes - I'm all for watching it. Unique is probably not the word I'd use though.

  12. Dude, Im totally on your wavelength. Why is it that I think of you & your reaction when I read about her/him/sheman/drag queen.....I can hear you opening the age & rolling your eyes from my place!!

(I dont want to get you into trouble by mentioning names like last time...)

  13. Unique can also mean 'I have no training, talent and I make it up as I go along, therefore when you criticise me, I can tell you i'm unique and get all huffy'

However, in this case, I know it is because of the lingering cloud of 'Stolen from the School of the Stompergirl'.

  14. Oh I love a good rant - and by the end of it and the comments I was getting a glimmer of what you were ranting about. Go for it with all my support too!

Bravo to your tap dancing boy indeed.

  15. I think I know what you mean. It is a kind of theft. A BS one too. Which stinks. And is used to disguise lack of talent.
Glad you could get it off your chest!
